Meta ads for home decor brands in India: angles, policy and a testing plan

Home decor buyers in India decide on looks but return on size, colour and damage. Ads that show scale and real-room context convert better and cause fewer returns. Fragile and bulky items also make COD and RTO expensive. This guide covers angles for decor, furnishing and small furniture brands, a calendar built around festivals and housewarmings, and a testing plan that counts damage and returns before declaring a winner.

Angles worth testing

Real room, real scale

Hypothesis: Showing the product in a typical Indian apartment with dimensions on screen will lift conversion and reduce size-related returns.

  • This 4 ft console in a 2BHK living room. Dimensions on screen.
  • How big is a 60 cm planter, really? Here it is next to a sofa.
  • Filmed in a rented flat, not a studio.

Renter-friendly

Hypothesis: Highlighting no-drill, removable and portable decor will win renters, a large share of metro buyers who avoid permanent changes.

  • No drilling, no damage to the deposit. Peel-off wall shelves.
  • Decor that comes with you when you shift flats.
  • Change the look of your rented room in an afternoon.

Handmade and craft

Hypothesis: Naming the craft and region (Channapatna, blue pottery, dhokra) will justify a higher price than generic decor.

  • Jaipur blue pottery, glazed and fired by hand.
  • Channapatna toys and decor, coloured with lacquer.
  • Dhokra metal craft from Bastar. Each piece is slightly different.

Room makeover

Hypothesis: A short makeover video of one corner using three or four products will raise AOV compared with single-product ads.

  • One balcony, four products, one Saturday.
  • We redid a reading corner for under ₹6,000. Full list in the caption.
  • A puja corner setup for a small apartment.

Safe delivery and packaging

Hypothesis: Showing the packaging and damage replacement policy will lift first-time purchases of fragile items.

  • How we pack ceramics so they reach you in one piece.
  • Arrived damaged? Send a photo and we replace it.
  • Watch our drop test on a packed vase.

Formats

Room tour Reels
Shows products in context and at scale. Works well for makeover angles.
Catalogue retargeting
Decor buyers browse many items over days. Dynamic ads bring back the exact pieces viewed.
Shop-the-look carousel
One room, one card per product. Encourages multi-item orders.
Dimension-forward static
A clean product photo with dimensions and a human or furniture reference cuts size returns.

A testing plan

  1. Write a hypothesis per ad, for example 'showing dimensions next to a sofa will lift conversion and reduce size returns'.
  2. Launch concepts that differ in angle or format: room tour, renter-friendly static, craft story, makeover carousel. Do not count colour variants of one product as separate concepts.
  3. Give each concept 2× target CPA and 3 days. Kill ads with zero purchases at 2× target CPA.
  4. Track damage, returns and RTO by ad. Fragile and bulky items cost far more to bring back, so a cheap-CPA ad can lose money once returns land.
  5. Iterate winners one variable at a time and judge on contribution after shipping, COD, RTO, damage replacements and GST.

Worked example: breakeven ROAS

Illustrative assumptions, not benchmarks. Replace with your own numbers. 18% GST is used as a general rate for furniture and decor. Many handicrafts and some furnishings moved to 5% or 12% in the September 2025 GST changes, so check your HSN code.

Questions

How do I reduce returns on decor ordered from Meta ads?
Show size against common objects, state dimensions in the creative, use natural light so colours are accurate, and show your packaging. Track returns by ad to see which creatives cause them.
Should I offer COD on fragile or bulky items?
COD on fragile items carries both RTO and damage risk on the return trip. Many brands restrict COD above a price or weight threshold. Compare contribution per order with and without COD.
Do catalogue ads work for home decor?
They work well for retargeting, because decor buyers browse many items before buying. Pair them with creative-led ads for cold audiences.
Which festivals matter most for decor brands?
Diwali is the largest, but Ganesh Chaturthi, Onam, Durga Puja and regional new years drive strong demand in their regions. Use the local language for regional festivals.
